Spennymoor 1 King’s Lynn Town 2

Adam Lakeland praised his King’s Lynn Town players for a “phenomenal” performance as they moved up to second place in National League North.

The Linnets – who survived an early penalty scare thanks to a save by keeper Paul Jones - came from a goal down at the break to clinch a vital win, thanks to goals from central defenders Greg Taylor and Tom Wilson.

It stretched Lynn’s unbeaten run to six games, ahead of the weekend trip to third-placed Chorley.

“A phenomenal win for us,” said the Linnets boss. “This is a really tough place to come. I think that's only the second game that they’ve lost in 10 months, 11 months maybe, so to do it from behind I’m incredibly pleased for the players.

“Second half, we were outstanding. We were definitely the better team. First half they were the better team and we had Paul Jones to thank that it was only 1-0 at half-time because in all honesty they probably should have been 2-0, if not 3-0, up. He saved the penalty, he’s made a save off the feet of (Rob) Ramshaw, and we struggled in that first half. We just failed to deal with their movement and it was only basic movement and movement patterns that we were aware of and we just didn't find solutions quick enough on the pitch.

“But to come in at 1-0 you've still got a chance and we said that we needed to be a lot better with the ball in the second half because I felt a lot of transitions in the first half came from us turning the ball over.

“I thought second half, we were superb. Just came out on the front foot, pressing was better. We were better with the ball and I thought we thoroughly deserved it based on that second-half performance and to go and win it off two set-plays, something we work hard on, an area we identified could cause them issues with, just full of praise for the players.”
