Adam Lakeland says bringing in a new striker cost King’s Lynn Town a fraction of what they brought in from the sale of Bartosz Cybulski to Spalding United.
Cybulski departed last Tuesday and Lynn signed Theo Williams from League Two Fleetwood Town on Friday, just in time for him to play a part in the FA Cup draw at Worksop the following day.
“Bart is a player who has got a lot of potential - we maybe didn't see it enough,” said the Linnets boss. “And he is a player who's out of contract at the end of this season and we got offered a really, really good deal for him.
“To give a little bit of context, we’ve signed a striker, a young, promising striker who's got a real key attribute in his pace, something that you can't teach anybody, from a League Two club for 20pc of what we got as a National League North club for Bart.
“Sometimes things come around where they're just too good for you as a football club to turn down and it's my job together with the chairman to make the right decisions that we think will make the football club stronger going forward and we just felt that it was too good a deal for us to turn down regarding Bart and to be fair to the player it was too good a deal for him as a player to turn down as well, despite him dropping down a division.”
“We wish him all the best and he'll score a lot of goals at step three, but step 3 football and step 2 football are quite different. So we wish him well and we're really pleased with the work we've done this week.”
