Angus Gunn's focus is on football, not his future, as Norwich City prepare to kick off their Championship season away at Oxford United this weekend.

The Canaries shot-stopper has been officially handed the number one shirt and will start between the sticks for Saturday's trip to the Kassam Stadium after a hectic summer that saw him suffer both play-off and Euros heartache with City and Scotland respectively.

Gunn has entered the final 12 months of his deal in Norfolk, and no talks have taken place yet about potentially renewing his contract at the club.

Given his importance to the side and his performances last season, that will be a topic to address for sporting director Ben Knapper after the transfer window closes later this month, but it isn't a priority for the 28-year-old.

Gunn's focus is entirely on navigating a gruelling 46-game Championship season with his boyhood club as talk on his future takes a backseat ahead of Saturday's kick-off.

"I don't really think about that, to be honest," Gunn said. "After the summer, I went away and had a good break with my family.

"I was eager to get back on the pitch and, from my point of view, that's all I've been focusing on. We will see what happens."

Gunn's pre-season has been somewhat disjointed after his participation at the Euros with Scotland and then a hand injury that required management upon his return to Colney.

That means he heads into the Championship campaign with only two pre-season appearances under his belt, but the Scottish international insists he is ready for the challenge ahead.

"I came back and had an issue with my hand, but I wasn't missing out on training. I was still on the pitch and doing a lot of physical stuff," Gunn said.

"Fitness-wise, it feels good, and now it's about getting back into the games and getting those minutes. It's only been four or five weeks since I played so it wasn't too much of a break for me.

"I'm looking forward to the competitive games coming up, and hopefully, we can have a good season."
