Norwich City are in the race to sign AEK Athens winger Niclas Eliasson, according to reports in Sweden.

The Swedish winger has been linked with a move away from Greece this summer, and highly respected outlet Fotboll Direkt are reporting that Norwich are among the clubs in the race to sign the 28-year-old.

According to the report, Eliasson is also wanted by French sides Nantes and PSV, but Brazilian side Gremio, who have been linked elsewhere, is not thought to be in the picture.

He is supposedly available for between €4m and €5m this summer, although the report adds that he is happy in Greece.

The Swedish youth international can play either on the right or left flank and has scored eight goals in 34 Super League appearances this term, recording nine assists. Eliasson has also featured in AEK Athens' Europa League and Champions League qualification stages.

He has played in England earlier in his career, making 95 appearances for Bristol City between 2017 and 2020 before joining French side Nimes Olympique with a year remaining on his contract at Ashton Gate.

Eliasson was a popular figure during his time at Ashton Gate and recorded 12 assists in his final campaign in England, playing predominantly as a wing-back before a move to Ligue 1. From there, he joined AEK Athens in 2022.

Lee Johnson, who managed Eliasson at Bristol City, felt he developed dramatically during his last period in English football.

"We know his talents, and I think for me, you recruit players for their individual brilliance, particularly wide men," Johnson said of the Swedish winger in 2019.

"But for me, the way that he’s grown from where he started from when we signed him as a young boy from Sweden, nurtured him in terms of physically, tactically, technically he has always been one of our best and to see him become a man effectively in his game at Championship level is full credit to him and it’s very very nice to see."

AEK Athens are in the race for the Super League, with Eliasson playing a major part in their push for their 14th league title. They host Olympiacos on Wednesday hoping to take one step closer to the title.

Norwich have scouted in Greece previously, signing Christos Tzolis and Dimitris Giannoulis from PAOK in 2021.
