Norfolk head over the border into Cambridgeshire on Sunday for a match which is all about local pride.
Both sides out of the running to qualify for the knockout stages of the NCCA Trophy, but Norfolk skipper Sam Arthurton will be looking to finish the campaign with a win at Exning, after the disappointment of losing at Shropshire two weeks ago.
In that match, Arthurton lost the toss and Norfolk were asked to bat first on a wicket that had been affected by heavy overnight rain. Norfolk posted a score of 223 with the help of a fine half century from Ryan Findlay. The wicket had dried out in the afternoon and the outfield was much quicker. Once Shropshire professional Tom Fell, who was released last summer by Worcestershire, got to work batting looked so much easier. He showed his quality with an innings of 88 as Shropshire won by five wickets with two overs to spare.
Fell followed this up last Sunday with a century as Shropshire beat Cambridgeshire in a rain-affected game. Cambridgeshire have lost all three of their group games and currently prop up the Group 3 table.
Due to unavailability, Norfolk have made two changes to their starting line-up, with youngsters Cameron Graveling and Will Bowman coming into the side. Slow bowler Graveling has been unlucky to miss out in the last two matches where decisions on the morning of the game after looking at the wicket have led to Norfolk playing an extra seamer. He has bowled well for Horsford in recent weeks. Bowman has been in fine form with the bat for Norwich and deserves his chance.
Head coach Chris Brown said: “We are always looking to give the younger players an opportunity and we have done this consistently over the last few years. We have some good young players coming through the pathway programme which bodes well for the future.
"It will be great if we can end the campaign on a positive note and then we will start to prepare for the three-day championship.”
Norfolk will start their three-day campaign with a trip to Tring to take on Buckinghamshire on July 9-11.
Norfolk: Sam Arthurton (cpt), Ben Curran, Alfie Cooper, Freddie Fairey, Will Bowman, Jason Reynolds (wkt), Ryan Findlay, Callum Metcalf, Brett Stolworthy, Andy Hanby, Cameron Graveling. 12th man Nat Laws.
