An RAF base home to some of the most modern stealth fighters has issued a warning as it undertakes training exercises over Norfolk.

Pilots from RAF Marham near Swaffham will begin night-time flying training today (November 18).

The exercises will run until Thursday with locals told to expect noise until 11pm each night.

The base is home to the RAF's F35 Lightning aircraft, with each jet estimated to cost around £100m.

A spokesman for the base said: "As much flying as possible will be conducted over the sea in designated training areas, but residents in close proximity to RAF Marham may notice an increase in aircraft noise during these evenings as aircraft depart and recover to the airfield."

RAF activity has been prominent over the county in recent months with a sonic boom causing a shock to many in October.

The loud bang described as sounding like " "two bombs going off above our heads" came as Typhoons from Lincolnshire scrambled to a hoax bomb threat on an Air India flight from Mumbai to London Heathrow.
