Volunteers across the region have been commended for their work improving railway stations.

Greater Anglia praised the volunteers at its annual Station Adoption Awards, where achievements from its 330-strong volunteer team were recognised.

The awards celebrate the dedication of those who work with Greater Anglia to improve their local stations for the community's benefit.

Notable initiatives were commended across 11 categories including best station, best adopter group, and the environmental and innovation award.

He and his wife Ros, who reside in the former station master's house, have always cared for the station's planters and hanging baskets.

Pat was among the first to officially join the station adoption scheme when it began in 2003.

The Cantley station volunteer group was named best small station for their creation and maintenance of beautiful gardens alongside the platforms.

Alan Neville, Greater Anglia’s customer and community engagement manager, said: “We are so grateful to our amazing team of station adopters for everything they are achieving at their stations – and their work is loved and appreciated by the community too."

Other stations recognised include Eccles Road, which won the award for best tubs and hanging baskets, and Saxmundham, which was highly commended for its environmental and innovation award.

The station adoption scheme, introduced by Anglia Railways in 2003, allows individuals or groups to adopt their local railway station and contribute to its welfare for the community's benefit.

Greater Anglia supports these volunteers by providing funding for small projects and improvements.
