A Boeing 737-8JP had to circle in airspace above Norfolk after experiencing an emergency onboard the aircraft.
The Norweigan Air Sweden flight took off from London Gatwick at 1.47pm and was scheduled to land at Gothenburg Airport in Sweden at 4.30pm.
According to Flight Radar 24 - a live air traffic website - the plane diverted from its path to Sweden before travelling south and landing at Stansted Airport.
It is understood the flight issued a Squawk 7700 code indicating an emergency onboard the aircraft.
Norwegian Air Sweden has been approached for comment.
