A man has appeared in court accused of having dozens of indecent images of children.

Kevin Van Raalte, 39, of Weatherby Road in Bowthorpe, faces three charges of possession of images on or before September 29 in 2021.  

Appearing at Norwich Magistrates’ Court he spoke only to confirm his name, age and address but did not enter formal pleas to the allegations. 

The court was told the charges included accusations that he had been found with eight category A images. These are the most serious kind which include penetrative sexual activity or sadism.

He is also accused of having 30 category B and 73 category C images. 

The District Judge declined jurisdiction saying the charges were too serious to be heard by magistrates and required greater powers. 

Van Raalte, who has no previous convictions, will appear at Norwich Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on November 11. 

He was given unconditional bail.
