ONRG is enhancing OEG Renewables’ topside division with its unmatched safety standards.
Based in Buxhall, Suffolk, ONRG is a premier engineering services provider specialising in the management of high-voltage (HV) network assets for offshore wind farms and associated infrastructure.

The business was acquired by leading offshore solutions business OEG Energy Group earlier this year and now forms part of the OEG Renewables topside division, alongside companies including Specialist Marine Consultants (SMC), Fern Communications, Manor Renewable Energy and OPS Wind.
The topside division delivers a comprehensive suite of specialist services and integrated solutions to support wind farm developments from construction through to operation.
Services include marine coordination, balance of plant, temporary power provision, portable welfare solutions, communication systems and high-voltage (HV) operations.
Additionally, the division offers service technicians, recruitment, marine consultancy and vessel inspections, with a new blade division underway.
OEG Renewables topside director Ian Coates said HV services will become an integral part of its suite of services.
“Backed with OEG Renewables’ support and investment, ONRG is set to become a leading industry provider of safe, high-quality HV services,” he said. “The ONRG safety and training culture will be developed to allow entry into global markets utilising local talented personnel.”

Ian was previously the founder and managing director of SMC, a company which provides marine coordination and offshore asset inspection, service and maintenance solutions.
Under Ian’s leadership, SMC became a globally recognised provider of specialist topside services to the offshore energy and civil marine sectors before it was acquired by OEG Renewables in 2022.
“Ian’s unwavering dedication has not only propelled the growth of SMC and OEG Renewables but has also enriched the careers of those around him,” said Chris Emmins, founder and managing director of ONRG.
“It’s very clear across all the departments that safety and quality are paramount. This energy is driving the growth of topside services – and this is what ONRG and the team are committed to supporting.”
Ian agrees that the topside division ensures the highest standards of health and safety through the development of a positive safety culture, which always supplies personnel with the best equipment and resources.
“We conduct training events, actively seek and act on feedback, and continuously explore ways to enhance our services,” Ian added.
ONRG has consistently delivered world-class expertise in the HV sector to its clients. Now, as part of OEG Renewables, the company is eager to expand its service offerings and tap into new markets.
“It is clear that the topside division we belong to is also world-class,” Chris remarked.
Post-acquisition, ONRG has launched Taiwan and UK Control Point services to support its Operational HV Safety teams, showcasing the immediate benefits of OEG Renewables’ support network.
But the acquisition provides mutual benefits. ONRG’s expertise in HV project engineering will also enhance OEG Renewables’ overall capabilities.
“HV networks are ultimately the key for any transmission and generation business,”
Chris said. “Our service primarily focuses on the operations of these from construction through to O&M.
“When you combine these with the other topside services, the offering and expertise OEG Renewables can deliver offers a wrap-around service.”
Chris said that the integration of ONRG into the topside division will also help to refine OEG Renewables’ performance and boost the energy industry at large.
“ONRG continues to obtain market share and, on our own, we’ve done a fair job,” said Chris. “But together we are stronger – lessons from the industry can be shared across the disciplines because each business is amazing in its own right.
“With the global team, our services can be fine-tuned for each market.”
ONRG is not only an industry leader in technical project management, operations and control and consultancy, but also as a provider of electrical safety training and staff development.
Through its Performance Assessment Training Hub (PATH) and NRG+ eLearning platform, ONRG offers specialised training for HV authorisation and technical management. This programme helps energy sector workers achieve authorisation levels such as Senior Authorised Person (SAP), Control Engineer (CE) and Authorising Engineer (AE).

“Our vision of local content delivery is realised by investing in training new talent and assisting clients in training their staff. Simply sending someone to train another is no longer sufficient,” Chris said.
“Across all teams – sales, finance, technical – our dedicated people are contributing. Every company within the topside division shares the same vision and, together, we’re excited for this journey ahead.”
