City students were left on cloud nine after coming away with top results in their GCSEs.

There were shrieks of glee as high school leavers returned to collect their results and say farewell to their teachers as they tore open their eagerly anticipated results.

And there were success stories galore as pupils who began their high school journeys in lockdown saw the fruits of the last four years pay off.

Among these was Francesca Sablowski, a pupil of Norwich High School for Girls, who earned grade 9 in all 11 of her chosen subjects.

The school also saw double joy for twins Natalie and Ivy Platten, who gained 10 GCSEs each - all between 7 and 9 - and 10 grade 9s between them.

Another school where a set of twins celebrated together was Langley School in Taverham, where brothers James and Toby Goldsmith achieved 13 grade 9s combined.

Wymondham College was another school which boasted a straight 9s pupil - Freya Simmonds - who said earning 10 grade 9s was a "dream come true".

Hethersett Academy had more than a dozen pupils achieve eight or more grade 9s - including Erin Lartey who earned 10.

She said: "I'm very happy with how I've done - I think all my hard work has made off which I'm glad to see."

A group of five children at City of Norwich School - Alice Small, Mattie Whitehead, Archie Stoy, Ben Russell-Grant and Laura Shepperson - earned 32 grade 9s and 12 grade 8s between them.

Following advice issued by the Norfolk School Leaders Association, many of the city's schools opted against sharing their results publicly - a trend which began during the Covid pandemic.

However, those that did, offered the following results (per cent of grades 4-9 in maths and English):

  • Hethersett Academy: 85pc
  • Hewett Academy:  73pc
  • Jane Austen College: 78pc
  • Langley School: 84pc
  • Wymondham College: 87pc
