Detectives are hunting for a murder suspect after a man was stabbed to death in Norwich.

Officers were called to Paragon Place in NR2 at 6.44pm on Friday to reports a man had suffered a stab wound.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, the man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene.

The area has been cordoned off while police investigations continue. 

Detectives say it is an isolated incident and urgent inquiries are ongoing to find the suspect.

Detective superintendent Dave Freeman said: “We understand this is a deeply concerning incident and we are working hard to locate the suspect.

“A number of police resources have been deployed to the scene and we are in the early stages of our enquiries to establish the circumstances around this incident.

"At this time I do not believe there to be any wider risk to the public.

“This happened during daylight hours and there would have been people in the area. I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw anything suspicions to contact police.”

There was a large emergency presence at the scene on Friday night including armed police officers.

Three air ambulance rapid response vehicles also attended the scene with a privacy tent being raised in the centre of the cordon.

Officers were reportedly using a drone and police dogs to search the area.

One eyewitness said: "I saw them treating someone with a chest injury at around 7.15pm.

"There was an active search going on with officers searching bins in the area for a suspect."

This afternoon, police announced an increase in foot patrols in the area.

This afternoon Detective superintendent Mike Brown from the Norfolk Major Investigation Team said: “We recognise the concerns people in the area will have and would urge anyone to speak to our officers.

“While we are still in the early stages of the investigation, we do believe the parties involved were known to each other and there is no wider risk to the public.

 “We are working through a number of lines of enquiry in order to trace the suspect, and while these enquiries are active, we will not be releasing the suspect’s description.

“This will of course be reviewed as the investigation progresses and should we need to a description will be released.”
