A photography competition has highlighted Thetford’s beauty.

Local enthusiasts were tasked with capturing the essence of the Norfolk town.

The contest, run by West Suffolk College personal and professional development centre, prompted 36 entries.

Sarah Morrison, a Thetford secretary and course alumnus, emerged as the competition's champion placing first and third.

She said: “I saw an advert online – I enjoy photography – and the competition was called Thetford through the Lens.

"So, I entered - and lo and behold I won.”

Her winning image depicted the Three Nuns Bridges.

"They are well known to the town and they have real historical relevance.

"It’s a local beauty spot and has lots of wildlife.

"I go there quite a lot and one day the water was really still and I managed to get a nice shot.” Sarah said.

Second place was taken by Emma Jones, while Micheala Sears shared third position with Sarah.

Visitors got to vote for their favourite photo, and Georgeena Taylor won 'on the night’.

The competition also created a link with ThetZero, a sustainability project in the town.

As a result, the images would be displayed in the Sue Ryder shop and the learning centre over summer.

Pleased with the result, Ian Evans, the head of the Thetford centre said: “We are proud to see how local, amateur photographers have taken up the opportunity to have their work showcased in and around Thetford.

"This town boasts an abundance of natural beauty.

"It is a delight to see people encompass this in their pictures.

"If you have a chance, please do visit the Sue Ryder shop in town to view this as a part of the ThetZero sustainability trail.”

The evening was not only about competition but also represented an opportunity for locals to learn about the educational opportunities available.
