The body of a teenager has been found in the search for a missing kayaker.

Police confirmed they had discovered the body in the water at Middle Level Main Drain in Wiggenhall St Germans, near King's Lynn, this afternoon following extensive searches.

The search for the 18-year-old began at around 3.50pm on Sunday after members of the public saw his kayak, previously thought to be a canoe, capsize.

While formal identification is yet to take place, the family of the missing teenager has been informed and is receiving support.

Emergency services involved in the search included specialist dogs, Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service and Lowland Search and Rescue.

The cordon which was previously in place while officers investigated the circumstances of the death has now been lifted.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained but not suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner.
