A farm shop has opened in the Norfolk countryside selling "everything you need for picnics and barbecues".

Couple Hannah and Idan Whyman-Naveh, who live in Shernborne, have launched Shadowthorpe Farm Shop at Creake Abbey, near Burnham Market.

The site is located a stone's throw from the ruins of an Augustinian Abbey, dating from 1206.

Opening the shop was a "natural progression" for the pair, after running a small sheep farming business in west Norfolk for 16 years.

The unit had been empty for a while, but it was previously occupied by Cape Vanilla, which relocated to a larger premises in the courtyard.

Mrs Whyman-Naveh also runs the dog grooming parlour and boutique Hannah's Hounds at Creake Abbey.

She said: "I had wanted to open a farm shop for ages but kept talking myself out of it.

"However, every time someone came to view the empty unit I had this awful feeling of missed opportunity - in the end, my husband said we should just go for it."

The items for sale include a range of meats, fruit and vegetables, preserves, cheeses, bread and savouries like pasties and scotch eggs.

Over the summer, customers can also get strawberry pots with chocolate sauce and cream.

They also offer deli boards that need to be pre-ordered at least 72 hours in advance, or customers can pick up mini versions on the day from the counter.

Many of the items are sourced locally and they are only stocking produce from British farms.

Mrs Whyman-Naveh added: "We sell everything you need for picnics and barbecues and I also want it to be a place for locals to grab milk, bread and something for that evening's dinner.

"We are hopeful that our new business will serve the locals in the Creakes as we aim to keep our prices reasonable."

The Shadowthorpe name is a combination of Mrs Whyman-Naveh's first pony Shadow and their first bit of land in Ingoldisthorpe.

The opening times are 9am to 3pm Tuesday to Sunday.
