A woman who died after being hit by a car during the busy school run has been named.

Yi Sun, of Costessey, was killed on Thursday, July 18 after she was involved in a crash with a Volkswagen Passat.

It happened at Dereham Road, close to its junction with Britannia Way, shortly before 3.30pm.

On Tuesday, an inquest into her death was opened at Norfolk Coroner's Court.

The court heard that Ms Sun, who was 44, was born in China but lived in Phoenix Way in New Costessey.

Opening the inquest, senior coroner Jacqueline Lake confirmed that Ms Sun had died of multiple injuries, particularly to her skull, due to a road traffic collision.

Following the crash, Sgt Ben Hawkins of Norfolk Constabulary described the circumstances as a "traumatic incident for all involved".

With it happening so close to the school run, he urged any witnesses "not to suffer in silence" and to seek support if they were struggling.

Mrs Lake adjourned the hearing until Monday, January 20, 2025.
