A Norfolk potato grower is playing a leading role in the latest M&S Farm to Foodhall ad campaign.

Greens of Soham production manager Nick Goff showcases the unique growing processes the farm has adopted to ensure it produces the best possible quality new potatoes.

Greens of Soham was started in 1966 by brothers John and Andrew Green. The business credits the light sandy soils of Norfolk and its home-grown seeds for the high quality of its crop.

They take a holistic approach to rotation and cropping to produce healthy potatoes with minimal environmental impact – a top priority for the company.

The farm uses green energy to power its sites and works with landlords to set aside 5% of its land to Environmental Focus Areas.

The company - based near Soham near Ely - operates across East Anglia, Northumberland and the Scottish borders on land ranging from rich black fenland to the free draining sands of the Norfolk Brecklands.

Farm to Foodhall is fronted by Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge and is the retailer’s biggest ever marketing campaign.

It follows him as he visits the retailer’s "Select Farms" across the UK to tell the stories behind a range of products.

The campaign which spans TV, in-store and online advertising as well as social media, sees Nick share more information on what makes Greens of Soham’s potatoes so special – from home-grown seeds to a highly skilled workforce – and how they aim to deliver M&S new potatoes from harvest to store in 48 hours.

Nick said they were thrilled to be taking part.

"We are proud to have been supplying M&S potatoes for almost 20 years and this is a fantastic opportunity to show people the work that goes into growing them," he said.

"We pride ourselves in producing the best quality for M&S customers and hope that people enjoy seeing how much skill and care happens behind the scenes.”

Harry Wilder, senior agronomist at M&S, said: “Our relentless focus on quality is what sets us apart at M&S – and it’s shared by the farmers we work with.

"As a predominantly own-brand retailer, we benefit from longstanding relationships with our Select Farms, meaning we can work together to find innovative ways to ensure only the very best quality for our customers. We’re incredibly proud of the work we do with Nick and the team and their new potatoes are perfect for a summer salad.”

M&S works with more than 9,000 Select Farmers across the UK – including 900 across the East of England - to produce food for its 30m customers.
