Plans for a 10-acre holiday park in a rural enclave are back on the agenda, backed by claims the development is needed.

Previous proposals for the site off the B1454 at Barwick, a tiny hamlet between Docking and Fakenham, were turned down last year after villagers objected.

They said there were already three campsites in the area and local roads and facilities could not cope with the extra demand.

Now  the plans have been re-submitted. A design statement says: "The proposal comprises of the change of use of the land to station up to 46 cabins and the use of the existing dwelling on site, known as Frogs Hall, for use as a manager's house and shop."

It adds there is "an economic benefit and need" for the development, which will support tourism, while a highways survey shows can be accessed safely.

Concerns over the visual impact of the site have also been addressed by dense planting around its boundaries, obscuring views from the road.

Stanhoe Parish Council has not yet responded to the latest application.

But it said of the earlier proposals: "Frogs Hall would be the third camp site within 1.5 miles with direct access to the B1454, and the sixth holiday accommodation in the area.

"Stanhoe has no infrastructure, we are not on mains sewerage, and we have no public facilities other than a village hall and an upmarket gastro pub. There are no shops or other public facilities."

Refusing the plans, West Norfolk Council said: "The proposed development would not contribute or enhance the and local environment and does not recognise the intrinsic character and beauty of the countryside."

It added it was "not of a scale suitable to it rural location", while no business need had been identified.
