A Norwich man accused of street robberies has been told he must remain in prison after he admitted a series of further offences including the intentional strangulation of a man he had in a head-lock.

Nathan Rayner had held the man around the neck for so long that he had briefly stopped breathing during an incident on June 1, Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told.

The 23-year-old, from Ingram Court, appeared via video link from HMP Norwich after also admitting thefts of clothing from Primark and beauty items from Sally Salon Store in March and fraud over an attempt to sell a stolen bicycle in April.

The court was told he was also facing two charges of robbery after the thefts in the street of items including necklaces, a bag and phones in September 2023.

Deputy District Judge Jacqui Appleton committed the offences to be heard before Norwich Crown Court with a preliminary hearing on August 2 saying they were too serious to be dealt with at magistrates.

She ordered he remain in prison on remand.
