Long delays on A47 near Norwich due to broken-down horsebox

Drivers were facing six-mile queues due to a broken-down horsebox with traffic affected near the Thickthorn roundabout and towards Trowse.

One lane was blocked but to safely move the horses when recovery arrives both carriageways were closed.  

There are reports of a broken down horse box resulting in a lane closure on the #A47 westbound between the #A11 #Thickthorn #Cringleford and #B1108 #Bawburgh.

There are delays of 45 mins above normal travel time with 6 miles congestion.

National Highways reported that drivers were facing delays of 45 minutes above normal travel time.

Drivers were being urged to find an alternative route.

Escorted by police, a recovery vehicle was sent to the scene to remove the horses safely.

After hours of disruption, National Highways has confirmed that both lanes have reopened and traffic in the area is "clearing well".

There was further traffic along the A47 through Hockering and Honigham ahead of the show.

Severe delays of 19 minutes were reported, with traffic moving at around 10mph. 

The build-up was eastbound between the A47 and Taverham Road.
