Police investigating assaults at Let Women Speak event

The Let Women Speak rally outside City Hall on Saturday was countered by trans activists who attempted to drown out the speeches by playing loud music over amplifiers and chanting.

The event was hosted by Kelly-Jay Keen-Minshull, also known as Posie Parker, who is the leader of the Party of Women and leads rallies across the world to defend women's sex-based rights, which she says are threatened by trans ideology.

Mrs Keen-Minshull took to social media to praise the rally's stewards following reports that water had been thrown over them as tensions rose.

A spokeswoman for Norfolk Police said: "Two crime reports were received in relation to the event. The first was an assault which involved a man being pushed by a woman.

"The second was also an assault where someone threw a water bottle into the crowd. A woman was struck by the bottle but was not injured. Both are under investigation."

The Let Women Speak rally saw Linda Law, who is standing for the Party of Women in Norwich South, launch her election campaign.

The Party of Women stood five candidates in the local elections last month, with none voted in.

It is focussed on resisting trans ideology - claiming that allowing children to transition from one gender to another is a form of "abuse" - and protecting women-only spaces, keeping people who were born male out of women's prisons, for instance, and out of women's sport.

In a post on X, Mrs Keen-Minshull said: "Thank you to our Let Women Speak stewards, the fabulous local volunteers and the brave women who attended."

She also shared a post which claimed that someone had "thrown water all over the stewards" during the event, expressing frustration that police action had not been taken at the time. 

A spokeswoman for Norfolk Police confirmed that no arrests were made.
