A Norfolk town could see its bus services double in frequency under plans to build new bus stops on a major road. 

Discussions are under way at Norfolk County Council about the new stops along the A146 in Loddon, which would be built at existing laybys on the road.

This would give local people access to the X2 bus service between Norwich and Lowestoft - which currently bypasses the town - as well as the 146 service between Norwich and Southwold.

Kay Mason Billig, leader of the council and member for Loddon, said: "I am in discussions with officers about whether this would be a possible scheme and we are currently awaiting the design brief.

"This will be a very welcome addition locally - it is something that many people have asked me to push for.

"It also makes perfect sense, as it will provide another option for residents to be able to use the bus to get to both Norwich and Lowestoft and as a consequence, will take more cars off our roads."

Mrs Mason Billig said she hoped for work to start before next April.
