Film buffs could soon be able to watch their favourite features throughout the night as a city cinema has revealed plans to extend its opening hours.

Vue Cinema in Norwich's Castle Quarter is seeking permission from the city council to screen films 24 hours per day.

The application to change its premises licence would also permit alterations to the venue's layout and allow it to serve late-night food and drink from 11pm until 5am.

Competition to attract film fans is heating up in the city with a new four-screen cinema set to move into Chantry Place shopping centre.

The Everyman Cinema will be moving into three units at the centre, including the former Pizza Hut restaurant and the existing Escape Hunt venue on the ground floor, and seat 300 people.

It will become the fourth cinema in Norwich - alongside Vue, Odeon in Riverside, and Cinema City in St Andrews Street.

The Odeon cinema is also undergoing a major refurbishment with improved sound and vision, seating and a new concession stand.

Work began on May 13 and it is scheduled to take 21 weeks, with the cinema still open with a reduced amount of screens.

The application from Vue Cinema will be decided by Norwich City Council in due course.
