The search has begun for a winner of the Outstanding Achievement award, sponsored by Barclays Corporate Banking, at the Eastern Daily Press Business Awards 2024.

This non-entry category celebrates an individual or group that has played a transformative role in their business and in the wider community, helping to put Norfolk businesses on the map.

“The recipient of the Outstanding Achievement award will be a business that has shown a track record of success over an extended period, has evolved to meet the needs of the customers it serves and has invested in its product and people to safeguard its future in a changing world,” said Steven Brown, head of East Anglia for Barclays Corporate Banking.

As the theme of this year’s EDP Business Awards is sustainability, social responsibility will be a big consideration when choosing this year’s Outstanding Achievement winner.

“Social responsibility is increasingly important to consumers,” explained Mr Brown. “Many of us live within the communities that our business’s serve; this is not just about limiting our impact but finding ways to help improve those communities.”

The Outstanding Achievement award is not just a look back over a career but also a look at the impact this businessperson or group is having both on the present and the future, and regardless of the winner being an individual or a group, Mr Brown said that it is the people that are key.

“A business is only as good as the people who work within it,” he said. “Management teams play a significant role in determining the strategy and culture of a business, both of which are key to achieving commercial success.

“The Covid pandemic had a material impact on the way we work, with the evolution of flexible working in many businesses. Employee expectations have changed too, so developing strategies to develop and retain talent is a key to success.”
