Store giant Lidl has withdrawn plans for a substation to supply a new supermarket after it sparked objections.
The budget chain was given planning permission for a new supermarket on the outskirts of Downham Market, after seeing off a legal challenge from rival Tesco.
More than 450 people wrote in support of the new store on Bexwell Road, near the A10 roundabout.
But proposals for an electricity substation to power the branch have not gone down so well with the locals.
Downham Town Council objected, saying it had concerns about its proximity to the neighbouring property and the road.
"Concern was also raised about the potential fire risk of siting the substation next to the electric charging spaces," it added.
"It was suggested that a better position for the substation would be at the rear of the site away from the above hazards, in an area which on the plans appears to be underused."
George Dickson, who lives next to the site, said on the council's planning portal: "This is a sizeable plot directly adjoining our property and the decision to locate this sub-station in this position is completely unacceptable.
"We are concerned around the image, noise and radiation from this substation and we wholeheartedly object to the positioning of this."
Julie Pyatt added: "The substation will be sited very close to the boundary of the nearest residential property and will cause harm to the amenity of nearby residents."
In an e-mail to the council's planning department, Lidl's agent said: "In light of the comments received, our client would like to formally withdraw this application."
Lidl is the latest in a string of developments along Bexwell Road, close to the roundabout with the main A10.
A McDonalds and Costa have already been built, while a 72-bed care home has also been given the go-ahead.
