A trio of soapstars have swapped the Cobbles and Dales for a major UK tour of a new comedy-drama play.

The Syndicate is based on the hit BBC One show of the same name and adapted from the first series.

It tells the story of five supermarket workers whose lottery syndicate numbers come in just as their jobs and livelihoods are under threat.

Titan of TV Kay Mellor created both the series and stage show, with the latter her final theatre project before her death two years ago.

She had already asked her daughter and actress Gaynor Faye (Emmerdale, Coronation Street) to co-direct the play, who is now going it alone.

Faye, who also stars in the show, said: "Mum’s shoes are big ones to fill, but I understand what her vision was for this production because I have been by her side from the very beginning."

The stellar cast also includes Corrie's Brooke Vincent and Samantha Giles from Emmerdale, who played Sophie Webster and Bernice Blackstock, respectively.

Asked for her best moment on the Dales, Giles said: "It was the B&B opening with Bob Hope [played by Tony Audenshaw] as it was absolutely bonkers.

"It was also hysterical behind the scenes as someone pooed in the prop toilet so Tony was going around trying to find the culprit - we renamed the Dame Judi Dench Suite as Dame Judi Stench!"

The trio are loving Norwich so far, with Vincent stumbling across local legend Barrie Cooper's vacuum cleaner stall and Lucy's Chips on the market.

Vincent said: "There were all these attachments I could get for my hoover and I also got a chippy - Norwich is the perfect mix of old and new."

She added: "Corrie is home for me but going on tour is like being off at university and I am having a great time!"
