A father-of-three died after his motorcycle crashed into oncoming traffic while overtaking on a bend, a court has heard.  

Jake Medler from Wicklewood, near Wymondham, died last year on September 13, in Salhouse. 

The 36-year-old died at the scene after his orange KTM motorcycle collided with a black Land Rover on the B1140 Low Road.

An inquest into his death took place this week at Norfolk Coroner’s Court, based at County Hall in Norwich. 

Summing up the evidence from a Forensic Collision Report, area coroner Samantha Goward described Mr Medler’s death as “a tragic accident”. 

She said: “There is no evidence that this was anything deliberate. It’s clear from the evidence that this was a tragic accident. 

“Based on the accounts of the various witnesses, it seems on the balance of probabilities that he was overtaking one or more vehicles as he approached a slight left-hand bend on the road. 

“This caused him to go into the lane of the on-coming traffic and he sadly collided with a vehicle coming in the opposite direction.”

Mr Medler’s medical cause of death was given as multiple traumatic injuries as a result of a road traffic collision. 

Mrs Goward recorded a conclusion of “road traffic collision”. 

She also confirmed that Mr Medler worked as an offshore wind farm electrician and that he was born in Norwich on February 1, 1987. 

Following his death, his wife Sophie, an estate agent, paid tribute to her partner, who she described as a "gentle whirlwind". 

She said: "There was no happier or safer place for me than in his arms - his brave girls were the centre of his universe. 

"I hope above all, Jake is remembered for that big heart." 

Since his death, a Go Fund Me fundraiser has raised £19,605 to date for his family.
