A dilapidated bungalow could be demolished to make way for a new home for a tenant farmer.

The Robert Smith Trust, which owns 74 acres of land at Brancaster, has applied for outline permission to replace the former farm worker's bungalow at School Farm, off Choseley Road, with a new three-bed house.

It says in a planning statement it was occupied by a previous tenant farm until he passed away in 2018.

When a new tenant with a young family took over, the property was deemed unfit to live in because of "asbestos and general dilapidation".

The statement adds: "Due to the market rental values of accommodation in and around Brancaster and the coast, and there being no other accommodation within the trust’s ownership, the current tenant farmer has been forced to seek accommodation well away from the area, commuting to the farm daily.

"The trust is therefore now seeking to replace the existing dwelling to give the tenant farmer and their family suitable living accommodation within the curtilage of the farm."

A decision from West Norfolk Council is expected later this year.
