The Opergy Group has been decorated for its innovative approach in stimulating net zero communities and supporting the UK’s transition to cleaner energy.
The UK has set ambitious net zero targets as the nation transitions to a greener, lower-carbon future. But in order to meet these targets, the energy industry needs forward-thinking businesses to develop strategies, technologies and communities with sustainability at their core.
The Opergy Group is a collection of small, high-growth companies focused on supporting business growth across a range of clean energy and energy transition sectors, together with developing future net zero energy solutions. It works with both industry and government in specialisms including strategy and research, financial services, investment support and business development, as well as carbon assessments, strategies and action plans.
The group of companies includes Opergy Ltd, Opergy Scotland, Opergy Asia and Opergy Net Zero, which are celebrated for work across offshore wind, nuclear, hydrogen and onshore renewable energy systems. The group’s trading brands include Net Zero East, which focuses on supporting net zero communities, and Hydrogen East, which was co-founded as the regional cluster championing the emerging hydrogen sector.

The Opergy Group won the Medium Business of the Year award, sponsored by Howden, at the Eastern Daily Press Business Awards 2023.
“Winning the Medium Business of the Year award felt like a solid nod of recognition for four years of hard work since our inception in 2019,” said managing director Johnathan Reynolds. “The win is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the whole Opergy Group team, who are instrumental to our success.
“We feel very proud to have been selected from such strong competition. There’s a real sense of achievement in knowing that we stand out in a dynamic and vibrant business community like Norfolk. It’s also a big motivator and a reminder that we’re on the right track to keep pushing forward, aiming higher and striving for excellence.”
The Opergy Group’s innovative solutions include a geospatial mapping tool, NZ-E-Map, used throughout its project and research work. The platform looks at infrastructure including gas, electricity, renewable energy assets, transport hubs, roads and carbon baselining data to identify novel opportunities to help stimulate community decarbonisation projects.
“We are also supporting the development of innovative startups, helping to bring new net zero technologies to market,” said Johnathan.
This includes Continuum, headquartered in Denmark with a UK development arm, which has one of the world’s first viable composite recycling technologies. It turns end-of-life wind turbine blades into new materials and products that can be used in a wide variety of applications in the built environment sectors, while solving a huge global composite waste challenge.

Last year, the Opergy Group launched the UK Energy Skills Intelligence Hub, developed in partnership with OPITO and the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB), which provides essential data to identify and forecast future skills and training required for the UK’s transition to cleaner energy.
“We’re fortunate to be working in a high-growth industry, but our success can be attributed to our ability to adapt to the need of that industry, our fearless approach to change and our drive to always deliver.
“Our people are our business – they are what set us apart. We also have strong core values and ensure these are considered in every project we undertake, every company we consult for and every programme we deliver on.”
