The finalists have been announced for the Rising Star of the Year award, sponsored by Birketts, at the Eastern Daily Press Business Awards 2023.
This award recognises the contribution made by entrepreneurs, their new ventures and the impact they are having on the local and regional economy, society and communities.
Ambition Public Relations
Based in Costessey, Ambition Public Relations (PR) has developed a reputation as a reliable, results-driven and proactive PR partner.
Services offered include public relations strategy, building profile for new market entrants, reputation management and delivery on long-term PR campaigns, personal brand and company brand strategies, copy writing, PR training and social media management.
The business believes that every business, regardless of size, deserves a platform to be heard.
The judges called Ambition “a fabulous small business” which has grown and run with its success while keeping its employees at its heart. They said that “the management of the business is second to none and its ambition is to be commended”.
Sekura Mobile Intelligence
Sekura Mobile Intelligence is a global mobile identity company in Aylsham that was founded in 2019. It works directly with mobile network operators to handle the subscriber data of up to 2.5bn customers securely.
Its innovative and versatile Sekura API Framework (SAFr) platform offers many types of protection for its partners, who will in turn work with their customers, allowing them to verify, onboard and log in end users safely and securely.
The judges said that Sekura is “an excellent example of an innovative solution being well exploited”.
They noted the impressive speed at which the business is growing and “the dedication the team had to ensuring future success”.
Skiyodl
Norwich-based SkiYodl is a tech company that aims to disrupt the traditional ski market by building a booking platform that curates, shares and monetises insider knowledge.
SkiYodl allows customers to book thousands of private properties across 18 resorts in France and seven resorts in Switzerland. The business works with a network of locals to provide customers with local knowledge and recommendations.
The judges commended SkiYodl, saying that the business “is at an exciting point in its growth, with new markets on the horizon”. They feel that if SkiYodl “can successfully replicate its operational model in new markets, it has the opportunity to cement itself as a trailblazer in the travel industry”.
The Goat Shed
The Goat Shed Farm Shop in Honingham started life as a garden shed with an honesty box system. During the pandemic, it turned into a temporary farm shop, acting as a lifeline for the community during lockdown.
Fast forward to 2023 and it’s open seven days a week, offering the best produce from Norfolk and beyond.
Recognising the business’ “dedication to its staff” and “clear set of values”, the judges said that “The Goat Shed has shown remarkable growth from its humble beginnings to where it is now” and added that it will be “embarking on significant growth over the next couple of years”.
