An author who combined dance and literature ahead of her latest novel is offering a series of workshops to get us moving.

Norwich-based writer, Sally-Anne Lomas, was inspired to use movement and writing to develop workshops aimed at wellbeing.

But it was an idea that first began ahead of publishing her debut novel – the first in her ‘fire’ trilogy.

Now, its sequel, which is being launched tonight (Tuesday, July 4) will be celebrating her discoveries.

Live Like Your Head’s On focuses on the power of dance to drive change while telling the story of teenage dreams and devastation.

Ms Lomas said: “I wanted to write about a very physical young woman who dances her way through her problems.

“I’ve always found my body to be much wiser than my head and I've always believed in the power of creativity to heal and to provoke change.”

Although an enthusiastic dancer, she admits to “not being very good”, but said that should not hold anyone back.

“In fact,” she added, “I met my husband in a Lindy Hop dance class.

“And even though my novel’s heroine is 16 years old, my novel appeals to anyone of any age who loves to dance.

“Didn’t most of us spend our teenage years secretly throwing shapes in our bedrooms? And who doesn’t love a kitchen disco?”

Ms Lomas, who is also an award-winning documentary filmmaker and director of the Cloth of Kindness textile art project, worked with choreographer, Sarah Lewis from Glasshouse Dance, for her first novel to bring the dance scenes to life.

Since then, she has developed a series of Embodied Writing workshops aimed at improving mental and physical wellbeing. She has also worked with Story Machine Books to deliver the workshops for NHS hospital staff.

Tonight’s book launch takes place at 7pm at Waterstones in Norwich.
