Glen Riddersholm believes that Shane Duffy's increased level of responsibility has sparked a turnaround in his Norwich City career.
The experienced Irishman has been ever-present under Johannes Hoff Thorup and impressed after a difficult opening year at Carrow Road that included on-pitch dips in performance and high-profile off-pitch errors.
Duffy has returned determined to improve his City fortunes and has invested more in sports science, including purchasing a band to help monitor the quality of his sleep.
Riddersholm is responsible for coaching City's backline and has forged a close relationship with the 32-year-old since his arrival as Thorup's deputy in the summer. The experienced Dane has been impressed by Duffy's early performances in the Championship.
Despite some turbulence during pre-season, including fitness issues, Duffy has emerged as an important cog in City's young defensive machine. Riddersholm was quick to praise his early improvement, which he credits with an increased level of responsibility.
"I have been really pleased with his progress here after a little bit of a difficult start," City's assistant boss said.
"He really has found his way. He can see that here it is fair - if you perform, then you play. If you try to adapt in every way, and he has, then good performances will lead to consistency. What football players are looking for is consistency.
"He has also taken big steps in taking responsibility as a captain and as a leader, not captain in the way that Kenny is, but taking responsibility for a very young back four - Jose has come into a new league, Kellen has had a great period and young left-backs in Ben [Chrisene] and Callum [Doyle].
"We need experienced players, and he has been one of those who has taken massive responsibility. You see that when people feel good, they play good. It's up to him and us to make it go positively in the future.
"I also hope that other players behind him will push him hard to take him to the next level. That's what we need for the future."
