Norwich City continue their Championship preparations with a Carrow Road return against German side Magdeburg tonight (6.45pm kick-off).

The Canaries are back on home soil after a trip to Belgium last week and will hope to show supporters in NR1 some of their progress under new head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup, who graces the home dug-out for the first time.

It is the first game City have played at home since the opening leg of their play-off semi final against Leeds back in May.

City have won, drawn and lost one of their opening three pre-season games. Their most recent was a 1-1 draw with Standard Liege in plus 30-degree heat in Belgium last Saturday. That ended a trip that also saw them beaten 3-0 by Club Brugge.

Thorup has subsequently trimmed down his squad as the second half of the pre-season campaign begins tonight with their opening Championship fixture away at Oxford United next month coming rapidly into focus.

Tonight could see only summer signing Jose Cordoba feature for the first time after linking up with his new colleagues following a successful Copa America with Panama earlier this week. Josh Sargent has also returned to Colney, but sat out of their open training session on Wednesday.

It will also serve as another opportunity to hand minutes to the recovering Liam Gibbs and Onel Hernandez.

Magdeburg are closing their pre-season campaign with two games in 24 hours, allowing head coach Christian Titz a chance to provide his whole squad with 90 minutes ahead of their Bundesliga Two opener against SV Elversberg next weekend.

The German side are unbeaten in all five friendly fixtures so far - that has included a 4-0 victory over Swiss side FC Zurich and a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich II.
