Norwich City midfielder Liam Gibbs is keen to reignite his rivalry with Ipswich Town, having had his first taste of the East Anglian derby last season.

Gibbs came on as a substitute late in the 1-0 win over his former side in April, having become a pantomime villain in both the sides' meetings during the 2023-24 campaign.

The 21-year-old joined Norwich from their Suffolk rivals as a promising youngster three years ago, and has had a mixed spell with the Canaries after breaking into the first team under Dean Smith.

His primary focus is on establishing himself under new head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup, and bouncing back from an injury-hit campaign.

He's still hoping for a reunion with the Tractor Boys, however, and a chance to extend City's unbeaten derby run.

"Especially the one at Portman Road, which was on my 21st birthday as well," he said, asked if he was disappointed not to have played a bigger role in the games last term. "I felt like something was written to happen, but it wasn't to be.

"That would have been nice to come on and play in, but it wasn't supposed to be. We got the win here (at Carrow Road), which was really nice and the most important thing in the season.

"The atmosphere was amazing for both games, so I'm definitely interested to see how they get on this season. We're looking forward to our season, and hopefully facing them next season."

Gibbs was speaking at the club's open training session, with fans invited to watch Thorup put his players through their paces. The midfielder relished the opportunity to meet fans afterward, praising them for their support.

"The fans are the club really," he continued. "They come every week and support us, and it's amazing have them here.

"To sort of give back to them by being able to go and introduce ourselves, say hello, sign some things for them, is a really nice day."
