Norwich City have reportedly seen a loan approach for Wolves left Hugo Bueno rejected.

TeamTalk are reporting that the Canaries pursuit of a left sided defender saw them attempt a swoop of the 21-year-old, but that it has proven unsuccessful.

Norwich are in the market for a left back after seeing both Sam McCallum and Dimi Giannoulis depart the club at the end of their respective deals earlier this summer.

They are close to securing a loan deal for Manchester City and England U21 international Callum Doyle, but are forced to show patience as the Premier League champions require numbers due to a lot of their senior options featuring in the recent Euros.

Bueno joined Wolves from Spanish side CD Areosa in 2019 and has made 21 Premier League appearances for Gary O’Neil’s side last season. The Spaniard only started seven times however, with suggestions that he could depart Molineux in pursuit of more regular football.

The Portuguese youth international is more of a traditional wide option, with Johannes Hoff Thorup favouring an inverted full-back so far.

Norwich have widened their search to Portugal and hold an interest in both Francisco Moura and Leonardo Lelo - but not at the prices currently being floated.

Guilherme Montoia is their only natural left back option in the squad, although Thorup has trialled Kellen Fisher in that area.

The need for reinforcements in that position is crucial as the clock ticks down to their Championship opening day clash against Oxford United next month.

Thorup offered a situation update after last week's defeat to Club Brugge in Belgium, telling the Pink Un: "With all due respect to the players that we already have, that's where my focus is at the moment. Of course, everyone can see we maybe need some strengthening in that (left back) position.

"I think it's just a matter of when everything gets sorted and we find the right player at the right timing with the right quality that we need. So that's my answer here for now."
