Former Norwich City left-back Dimi Giannoulis has completed his move to Bundesliga side Augsburg.

The Greek international departed Carrow Road at the end of his contract earlier this summer and has now put pen to paper on a four-year deal until 2028 at the WWK Arena.

Augsburg have beaten off competition from fellow German clubs Werder Bremen and Stuttgart as well as top Greek sides, such as AEK Athens, to sign the 28-year-old ahead of the start of their Bundesliga campaign.

Giannoulis joined Norwich from PAOK in January 2021 on an initial loan deal before activating a £6.2m clause to make the deal permanent. During his time with the Canaries, the left-back made 103 appearances for the club.

His final outing for City came in the second leg of their play-off semi final against Leeds United. It finished with a 4-0 defeat and saw the curtain fall on Giannoulis', and others, City career.

Giannoulis has linked up with his new club on their training camp ahead of their opening Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen next month.

"The talks with FC Augsburg were very positive from the start and I am very happy that I was able to travel to the training camp in South Africa," Giannoulis told Augsburg's official channels.

"A training camp is always a good opportunity to get to know the team and integrate quickly. With a view to the new season, this is very important for me because I want to impress from the start with my performance and commitment in order to achieve our common goals."

Augsburg sporting director Marinko Jurendic expressed his delight that the former City defender had put his faith into the project at Augsburg, with Giannoulis set to be managed by Danish coach Jess Thorup.

"We are very pleased that Dimitrios Giannoulis has chosen FCA," Jurendic said. "He is a dynamic, strong full-back who impresses in defence with his tackling ability and will also give us new impetus for our offensive game.

"With this signing, we have additional options on the left wing and see ourselves well positioned in this position. We wish Dimitrios a good start and much success and joy with FCA."
