Released Norwich City defender Danny Batth is in talks over a move to Blackburn Rovers, according to reports in Lancashire.

The 33-year-old was let go by City less than a year after a dramatic deadline day move to Carrow Road from Sunderland and has been training with former club Wolverhampton Wanderers to retain fitness.

Blackburn, which tried to sign Batth last summer before his move to Norfolk, are in talks over a potential free transfer ahead of the new season. The Lancashire Telegraph suggests negotiations are continuing as John Eustace continues his recruitment drive this summer.

They add that Batth was offered a two-year deal to move to Ewood Park last summer, but that was vetoed by the club's hierarchy due to issues with the ownership of the Venky's.

Blackburn also hold an interest in released Leeds defender Liam Cooper and are hoping to inject some experience into their squad.

City swooped for Batth after agreeing to sell young Irish defender Andrew Omobamidele to Premier League side Nottingham Forest last summer, with then sporting director Stuart Webber having worked with him previously.

Batth was never handed a consistent run of games at Carrow Road under David Wagner, featuring just 18 times during his season at the club.

If a deal for Batth to join Blackburn does get over the line, he could return to Carrow Road in August as the sides meet for City's opening home game of the season. The defender is thought to have other Championship and European interest in his search for a new club.

He joined the likes of Ben Gibson, Sam McCallum and Dimi Giannoulis on the released list at the end of their respective deals, with Norwich opting to head into a different direction that involves integrating more youth into their first team.

Gibson has joined Stoke, while McCallum has penned a deal with Championship rivals Sheffield United. Reports in Greece and Germany suggest that Giannoulis is poised to complete a move to Bundesliga side Augsburg.
