Manchester City youngster Callum Doyle is only focused on catching Pep Guardiola’s eye on the Citizens’ US tour, amid firm interest from a Championship loan posse headed by Norwich City.

The Canaries have identified the 20-year-old as a key defensive addition this summer, with a season long loan on the table when Doyle returns from the States.

Doyle was a key figure in Coventry’s run to the Championship play-off final two seasons ago, and despite an injury-hit move to Leicester ended with a title winner’s medal in a second consecutive loan posting.

The Canaries appear to have convinced Doyle to link up with Johannes Hoff Thorup at Carrow Road, barring any top flight clubs making a permanent move for the £15m-rated youngster in the window.

For now, Doyle is eyeing up Celtic in a pre-season friendly in North Carolina in the early hours of Wednesday morning, at the start of a busy tour that includes tune ups against AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea.

“I’ve always dreamed since I was a little kid to play against Celtic,” he said. “Since I was watching the derbies between Celtic and Rangers I feel like it’ll be a good game, a good test and a good battle.

“It’s everyone’s dream really (to work with Guardiola). He’s amazing, I’ll just take what he gives. It will be great working with very good players again. Learning from them and gaining their experience and using it in my own game.

"With what I had last season, working with a different range of players and kind of knowing what they’re like in the game – I think it just goes off feel.”

Doyle made 17 league appearances for the Foxes but was sidelined for nearly three months with a knee injury.

“It was a great feeling (to win the title). I think since the start of last season, we knew we had a good chance of winning it,” he said, speaking the Man City’s official site. “Obviously I worked with Enzo (Maresca) recently at City so it was good, a good experience and good to get the promotion as well.

“It was a bit nervous times at some points in the season, but I backed the lads and myself to get it over the line and it worked out.

“There was a game early on at Rotherham. From the games, I look back at them and see the team spirit we had it was great and it was a great group to work with.

“I think since from really the start of the season we backed ourselves to go and win it.”
