Adam Lakeland is happy to have sorted the bulk of King’s Lynn Town’s changes in personnel ahead of pre-season.

Lakeland had seven of his eight new signings in the building before a ball had been kicked, with striker Gold Omotayo coming in on the eve of the trip to Wroxham, for their second friendly last Tuesday – the day it was confirmed Ben Stephens was leaving.

There may be “one or two” more incomings, but Lakeland is happy with the job so far – he has plenty of experience as well as much-needed competition up front.

“If we're going to do well this season we need competition for places and we need players who can score goals,” said the Lynn  boss, whose side lost 2-0 at Mildenhall on Friday night.

“We know that Bart (Cybulski) can score because he obviously bagged a few for us last year and obviously Jonny (Margetts) came in and scored a few goals as well and then adding Gold to that - he scored a lot of goals here when he was here the season before last.

“He is very proven at this level and obviously then you throw Ross (Crane) into the mix, who gives you something completely different. So I think what we have got is good options at the top end of the pitch now.”

Omotayo netted 21 league goals for Lynn at this level in 2022-23, Margetts bagged nine goals in just 16 appearances, 14 of which were starts, and Cybulski also netted nine, from 23 starts/15 sub appearances.

“They could all play together, we could go with one or two of them, so we've got plenty of options,” said Lakeland. “Obviously it's a long season, a lot of games, it's unlikely that everybody will be fit and healthy for every single game. Obviously you hope that they are, but little niggles and knocks and suspensions, that type of thing can creep in, so we just need as many options and as much firepower as we can get.

“Obviously we put the ball in the box and Bart scored a good header (at Wroxham), but we probably didn't put the ball in the box enough, certainly in the first half. But we lined up a little bit differently with obviously two wide players and Gold through the middle on his own, but they've never played together before and it's difficult when that's the case, but a positive night, but still loads to obviously work on in the coming weeks.”
