King's Lynn Town's summer rebuild continued on Monday when another new signing was unveiled by manager Adam Lakeland.

Attacking midfielder Josh Hmami has put pen to paper on a deal ahead of the new National League North campaign.

“I’m really looking forward to it," Hmami told the club's official channels. "I spoke to Adam in the off-season and I instantly felt like it was the perfect fit for me. The ambition attracted me to come here, and for myself I want to play with high work-rate, get goals, assists.”

Lakeland added: “I’m delighted to get Josh on board. He’s a player who can see a pass, deliver excellent quality, make good runs into the final third and score goals from midfield.

"He has a brilliant attitude and work ethic, as well as plenty of experience at this level. He’s also at an age where I feel his best years are still to come and I look forward to working with him.”

The 24-year-old spent time at Bolton and Barnsley as a youth before moving to Accrington. He made one League Two appearance as a sub before moving to Welsh Premier League side the New Saints in May 2018. He had loan spells at FC United of Manchester and Ramsbottom United before joining Marine in June 2020.

A year later he signed for Southport on a two-year contract. he made 38 appearances and scored four goals last season - in all competitions he made 103 appearances, scoring 11 goals.

Southport wanted Hmami to sign a new deal this summer but the player was keen to play full-time football.

Manager Jim Bentley  said: "We are very disappointed to lose Josh as he’s a good player and a good person who is liked by everyone at Southport FC. We spoke at the end of the season and offered him a two-year deal and I’ve been in contact over the last few weeks.

"We have tried our best to keep Josh at the club but he’s shown a desire for full time football which we respect and appreciate. I’m sure I speak on behalf of everyone at the football club when I wish him all the very best for the future.”

Lakeland has already signed left back Freddie Sass, central defender Greg Taylor, who was on loan in the second half of last season, Ross Crane, from Leiston, and Tom Wilson, who was with FC Halifax Town.
