A council has had to clear up a number of tyres which were dumped on a town common by fly-tippers.

Thetford Town Council contractors reported the incident of fly-tipping on Barnham Cross Common on September 6.

The team had to collect a total of 20 tyres which had been discarded on the land which is used for outdoor recreational activities and animal grazing.

"The clearance is costly and takes council resources away from other areas of the town.

Fly-tipping is a prosecutable offence and carries a maximum penalty of £1,000 for those responsible.

Thetford Town Council has passed details of the incident to the police and district council and the teams will continue to carry out patrols in the area.
