The family of a Chedgrave man who dedicated his life to sport, his loved ones and his community has paid tribute to him following his death.

Paul Spinks died on August 5, leaving his wife Lyn, children Victoria and Adam and grandchildren Josh, Sienna, Emily and Lucy.

He was born to humble beginnings in West Ham in 1954 and nurtured his talent in sports from a very early age.

As a student at Rosetta Primary School and South West Ham Technical, he belonged to Newham Athletic Club and earned several medals and trophies.

He later transferred to Norwich Rugby Club where he coached a mini and youth team and supported his son Adam.

"I will miss Dad's advice and great conversation - whether it was work, DIY or sports, there was nothing he didn't know about,” Adam said.

"He has made me the father I am today. No amount of thanks is enough."

Paul had a successful career in engineering at local firms such as Colman's and Lotus and, in his spare time, liked nothing better than taking his caravan off to local fishing lakes.

"I will miss Dad's support with everything,” his daughter Victoria added. "Nothing was too much trouble when he knew we needed him and he knew how to fix anything.

"I can't thank him enough for this.

“He was the most amazing grandad to all his grandchildren."

Norwich Rugby Club echoed this sentiment in a statement which was shared publicly last week.

"He was always friendly with a happy smile and helpful approach. Nothing was ever too much trouble," it said.

"A kind and thoughtful man, he will be sadly missed by all his friends and family."
