Blakeney's annual greasy pole competition will take place this weekend.
The peculiar tradition is a highlight of the village's regatta, with its origins dating back to 1873.
Back then, the prize for winning the competition was a hog.
The objective of the challenge is simple: Participants must walk or run across a 30-foot-long telegraph pole that is suspended above water and covered in grease.
Only around one in five people make it to the end, where they must jump off the end of the pole and into the water below.
The odd event always takes place in the evening for safety reasons as the tide must be high enough for the contest to take place.
Other regatta events throughout Saturday include a tug-of-war on the incoming tide, a swimming race, and a 'gilly' (crab) catching competition.
