A three-legged rescue dog is looking for a forever home in Norfolk.

Petal broke her leg "desperate to escape" from a "filthy and overcrowded" kennel and crushed her limb when she fell from the fencing.

Her front leg was amputated before she made her journey from the Botosani public shelter in Romania to Safe Rescue for Dogs in Wymondham.

Petal is a medium-sized collie-crossbreed aged around five to six years old who is now looking for a new family.

On arrival, Petal tried to escape her foster home as her go-to response to stress and almost succeeded in scaling the six-foot fence, despite her amputation.

Luckily she was closely supervised in her foster home in Norwich and eventually managed to settle in.

She is described as a "strong-willed girl" who takes time to adapt to new situations but enjoys a fuss once someone gains her trust.

It has taken months for her to walk on a lead but she has finally cracked it and is now building up her fitness levels to manage longer walks.

A volunteer from the rescue centre said: "When she settles she is a sweetheart but she will need kindness and patience during the early weeks in her new home.

"She is not to be underestimated when she is adopted, as her disability does not hold her back in any way."

Listed at the rescue centre for almost a year, Petal is ready for her next chapter and is looking for her second chance at life.

She mixes well with other dogs but would need to be in a home with children over the age of 12.
