A children's nursery has been given the go-ahead to install a portable cabin on its premises to meet the growing demand for its services.

Little Footsteps Childcare, which has been running for more than 10 years, applied for the structure to be installed at its Mattishall location.

And Breckland Council has since granted permission.

The nursery intends to use the extra space for more children in its care.

It also has a day care service in Dereham.

Donna Nevill, the applicant, said in the application: "We will also be able to accommodate more two year olds in our existing premises."

The development is in response to the government's financial support for babies in childcare, according to Mrs Nevill's statement in the application.

Little Footsteps of Mattishall's main building currently supports the care of nine babies and 26 children between the ages of two and four.

The approval is a welcome decision after the Dereham operation fought against a negative Ofsted rating in 2023, when an incident concerning a child with 'finger bruising' was raised.

However, the rating was upgraded to 'good' just four months later.
