Plans to open a hair salon and shop at a village pub have been given the go-ahead.

The scheme will see a storage unit at the back of the Wheel of Fortune alehouse in Alpington converted into the new salon and store.

Under the plans, the double-door, single-storey block in the village six miles from Norwich will be divided into two sections - with the salon on one side and the shop on another.

The salon would be able to seat five people and the shop would have up to four shelves with middle aisle displays and a till.

This proposal has been widely praised by locals who believe the village would benefit from more shops and amenities.

A commenter said: "We have recently lost two shops, local deliveries of groceries and a bakery so would very much appreciate a new local shop.

"The village's bus service is meagre and many in the ageing community have no means of transport to Loddon or Poringland and rely on taxis to visit hairdressers.

"We can only see the benefits from the proposed plans, socially as well as economically."
