A west Suffolk school was put in a temporary lockdown after an "incident" in the reception.

Breckland School in Brandon was put into lockdown on Friday morning.

A letter sent to parents from headteacher Annabelle Culley-Tea said: "Today we had to sound the lockdown alarm due to an incident in our school reception.

"To ensure the safety of all our students and staff all remained in their areas whilst the incident was dealt with.

"I am pleased to report that the site is now safe and lessons have resumed."

The school confirmed that no dangerous weapons were brought onto the site.

A spokesman for Suffolk police confirmed that officers were called to reports of a potential incident at the school at about 9.50am.

No offences were were found to be committed and officers had left the school by 11am, the spokesman added.
