A renewed bid to demolish a vacant pub and build three homes in its place in a Norfolk village is still awaiting a decision.

The Decoy Tavern, on Beccles Road in Fritton, would be knocked if the applicant, Brian Newson, got permission to do so from Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

Plans show three detached homes would be constructed in its place.

The plans come just a year after the same applicant lost an appeal to demolish the historic building.

In a report the planning inspector last year said the facilities offered by the pub "should be retained to serve the needs of the local community".

Several villagers had objected to the previous plans, with some saying the Decoy Tavern was "the heart of the village".

One resident said knocking down the building would be "a tragic loss" while another wanted the village to buy the venue as a community asset.

A pub has been on the site since 1841 and has variously been named Pot in Hand and Bird in Hand.

The nearest other pub is The Bell at St Olaves, less than one mile away.
