A Norwich City star has shared a heartbreaking tribute after his beloved family pet died.

Shane Duffy paid tribute to his dog, Cali, in a post today revealing that the bully-type pup had tragically died just days after her second birthday.

The centre back posted a series of five photographs on Instagram along with the caption: "Rest easy baby girl you were the most special dog in the world to our family we are gonna miss you so much!

"You give us the most happiest memories."

Canaries teammate Borja Sainz and Irish player Richie Towell commented on the post to show their support.

Duffy, who has 61 caps for the Republic of Ireland, also shared several stories on his page, including one from girlfriend Danielle Mitchinson who revealed the couple were away at the time of Cali's death.

It read: "Tonight, for reasons we don't know yet, we lost our little darling, days after her second birthday.

"Suspected organ failure while we are both away.

"Beyond devastated is an understatement right now especially as we aren't there with her.

"She was more than a dog to us, she was a part of our family and I'm not sure how we will continue without her right now."

Duffy, who also has two children, got Cali as a puppy in August 2022.

The 32-year-old defender joined the Canaries last July from Fulham and signed a contract with the club until 2026.
