Two chippies in Norfolk have been named among the best in the UK.

The Times has searched the country high and low to find its 23 best picks for a fish supper.

The first to be named on the illustrious list was French's in Wells-next-the-Sea.

Now run by grandson Marcus, the chip shop on the Quay won the Quality Accreditation Champion category at the National Fish and Chip Awards earlier this year.

Author Chris Haslam described the batter at French's as "some of the lightest and crunchiest you’ll eat".

Fishers in Hunstanton was the other fish and chip shop to make the list.

The shop sits on the Green overlooking the Wash and has been open since the 1950s.

In November, it was awarded a blue ribbon in the Good Food Awards.
